Cleveland, Ohio

Located along the southern shore of Lake Erie with the Cuyahoga River snaking through its downtown areas, Cleveland boasts a rejuvenated downtown with a lively nightlife, including restaurants in each district serving cuisine from around the world—Ethiopian, Slovenian, Indian, Italian (more than just in Little Italy), French, Portuguese, and more. You can still find local places that serve the cuisine of Cleveland’s early immigrants including schnitzel and strudel, stuffed cabbage and pierogies, paprikash and goulash, Irish stew and fishcakes. And don’t forget the local microbrews! Home cooks can shop at the West Side Market for fresh meat and poultry, produce, cheese, and ethnic specialties from over a hundred vendors.

About me:
My name is Maya, I’m 18 years old and live in Israel. I started cooking when I was very young, mainly due to the fact that my mother worked late, and preferred to make my own meals rather then defrosting ready-to-eat meals. Since then my love to cooking has only grown.

Seven Layer Tortilla Pie

Reviewed on Aug. 19, 2008 by swimminash
Nice change from regular tacos! The only bummer for me was that we had no canned pinto beans-only dry, so I had to cook them for what seemed like forever. I also added ground turkey with half a taco seasoning and added the other half to the pintos (which I mashed in the food processor). I toasted mine over the burners quickly to prevent sogginess. I think if you are trying to be healthier, you could probably do without the full 2 cups of cheese. Used a spring form pan also because it was as tall as I had. Thanks for a yummy recipe!

Mansaka

This is pretty good stuff, I'll definitely make it again. Tho I have two minor complaints: I don't know how you microwave sliced potatoes, mine stuck together really bad, so I wound up making one chunky layer of potatoes since I couldn't pull the slices apart after they cooked. I also think it was just a tiny bit on the bland side, just a few more dashes of the spices (esp. pepper) and it'd be a 5-star recipe. I did sub mozzerella for swiss cheese, and next time I'll add more mushrooms. Very good recipe. Thanks!

Indian Chicken Curry II

Reviewed on Aug. 18, 2008 by marisella
This recipe has everything I want: it's simple, easy to adjust, and absolutely delicious. Both my husband and I thought it could have easily come from our favorite restaurant. I followed another reviewer's suggestions and toasted the spices before adding the olive oil and onion, and that really added to the flavor. I think next time I'll add veggies (potatoes and peas), or maybe just do vegetarian.
